Treasure hunting begins at home. People regularly find famous old books and valuable antiques in their attics, so get up there and look. One couple opened their walls while remodeling, and found them insulated with thousands of old and valuable movie posters. In the thirties a theater owner ahd put them there. The couple sold $200,000 worth of the posters, the last I heard.

There are many more ways to go treasure hunting. I used to take the old telegraph pole insulators form along train tracks, to sell for $4 each at an antique store. They were otherwise being shot to pieces by hunters over the years. The colored glass ones are usually the more valuable ones.

Panning For Gold

For $10 you can buy a gold pan, and start prospecting. It's easier to see the gold in the green plastic ones. Most federal lands are open to prospectors without a permit. I've only seen gold in my pan in Canada (there isn't much gold in Michigan), but people have better luck in the mountain streams of the southeast and southwest. It's a nice way to spend an afternoon in any case.

Treasure Hunting With A metal detector

metal detectors start under $200. I've found a few hundred coins, but none of them have been valuable ones. When the city tore up old sidewalks, a woman in our town used her detector to find coins . She sold one to a local coin shop for $700. A friend tells me that her husband and her have found many pieces of gold jewelry at the beach with their detector. It's also common to use metal detectors to find gold nuggets in the southwest.

Treasure Hunting In The Streets

Collecting cans for 37 cents a pound is a tough way to make a living. Here in Michigan and other states, however, there's a 10 cent deposit on every beverage container. During festivals I see people with bags of hundreds of cans they collected in the parks and garbage containers. Some travel here every year during the Cherry Festival, just to collect returnable bottles and cans that week.

I spoke to a man who went to the big concerts to collect beer and pop cans in the parking areas. He said he makes over $100 in a few hours (plus the time to take them to the store). Collecting "returnables" can be an unpleasant way to make money, but an old guy in town here tells me he pays the rent doing this.

Treasure hunting is about having the right frame of mind. There are treasures to be found everywhere. I once found a chest with foreign notes and coins in the crawl space under our house. Hotel owners report that visitors tuck money in the bedside bible, and forget to take it with them. Sometimes you just have to look.

Fourteen Simple Things You Can Do To Reduce Your Risk for Breast Cancer

10. Decrease or stop consumption of processed foods.

12. Take two capsules of organic flaxseed oil daily or just add a teaspoon of flaxseed oil to your daily organic salad.

13. If you are pregnant definitely breast feed.

As a retired diagnostic radiologist who read way too many mammograms I am excited because I finally have a path to try to connect to so many women who are having and have had mammograms.I was always chagrined since we would really torture and radiate many breasts but it was as if these breasts were not connected to a human type person. It bothered me that so many mammography programs make no effort at all to educate their clientele about what "they can do" to reduce their risks of breast cancer. I would suggest to the directors of these programs that we try to educate the patients and their response was 100% predictable. They would always first deny the relationship between diet and breast cancer and then add that their patients would not listen anyway.

Increasing your consumption of fresh organic fruits and vegetables has been shown to reduce the risk for breast cancer.

"There is strong evidence from epidemiologic studies that eating more fruits and vegetables decreases a woman's risk of developing breast cancer. This conclusion is strengthened by the similar results obtained from animal studies and experiments using isolated breast cells." Quoted from the Cornell University Program on Breast Cancer and Environmental Risk Factors. They go on to recommend uncooked fruits and vegetables. The reason for this is the heating damages some of the beneficial nutrients in the fruits and vegetables. Carrots, squash, sweet potatoes, broccoli and spinach top the list for being most protective. The Cornell study however does not stress the fact that these need to be "organic." Non-organic commercial fruits and vegetables besides being largely nutritionally bereft are also heavily sprayed with a wide variety of toxins.

The relationship between pesticides and other toxic chemicals such as benzene and toluene and cancer has long been established. There are better ways to rid your house of undesired guests than using chemical sprays. It sounds difficult but even if you can't get rid of all your pests you will live a longer and healthier life if you refrain from spraying. New carpet is another source of extremely toxic chemicals that "off gas" for at least a year or so after it is installed. Try to avoid new carpet especially in children's rooms.

Avoid tap water unless you live either in Lake Tahoe or Ithaca, New York. The tap water here in Tucson is CAP water that travels in an open trough from the Colorado River. It is loaded with fungicides / herbicides not to mention all the chlorine added once it gets here. While bottled or filtered water may not be perfect,you will considerably reduce your risk for any cancer by avoiding most tap water.

There is a little debate about the link between alcohol consumption and breast cancer. However, the consumption of any simple sugars such as occur in most alcoholic beverages is associated with decreased T-cell mobility and thus some immune compromise. I still have an occasional beer but that is the only sugar I ingest. The general consensus however, is that it is best to reduce alcoholic beverage consumption as much as possible.

Exercise has been proven in multiple studies to enhance the immune system. In order to be beneficial I would recommend thirty minutes at least three times a week. This should be exercise that elevates the heart rate and keeps it there for the thirty minutes. Running is good if you are not biomechanically impaired. Cycling and swimming are also good alternative and or exercise machines.

Increased consumption of organic grains and fiber has been shown to reduce the risk of breast cancer.

Decrease your meat, fish, poultry and dairy consumption. Animal protein has been linked to all the big three killers in this country as well as osteoporosis. For more on this see the "China Study" by T. Colin Campbell and "Diet for a New America" by John Robbins. Stop smoking is really a "no brainer" here. Smoking is associatedwith a variety of cancers and there is now strong evidence that cancer of the breast is one of them.

Consume more phytoestrogens from soy products like tofu. "Women with diets rich in phytoestrogens also excrete more estrogens into their urine, and have lower blood estrogen levels. Some studies have shown that women with a diet rich in phytoestrogens have longer, and hence fewer, menstrual cycles. All of these factors may contribute to reduced breast cancer risk. " This quote from the Cornell University Program on Breast Cancer and Environmental Risk Factors. Please be sure that any soy products you consume are organic.

In conclusion there are many ways to reduce your chances of breast cancer. I have presented the above from a more subtle point of view. When my wife (now ex-wife) developed a lesion in her left breast back in 1995 we put her on an organic vegan diet. Soon we cut out all sugar and increased her running mileage. She still has her left breast although there is still some skin retraction. My good friend and world class flamenco dancer Carmen Heredia died in her early forties from breast cancer and its treatment. Best not to get breast cancer at all.

This makes life much harder for computer forensics specialists, as they have to deal with clients who get the evidence tampered and covered without any idea of what they are doing. Online crimes have shaken the UK repeatedly during the past three years, but most home users still do not update their antiviruses. Very few companies have security measures in place, and in the lack of a comprehensive and forceful application of data protection laws, will probably continue being callous, bringing down a lot of misery on themselves and their clients.

Below is a list of government concerns that deal with computer crimes:

The local police force: According to the Home Office, all computer crimes should first be lodged with the local police force, who should be equipped either to deal with it, or pass it on to the appropriate higher authority.
SOCA: Serious and Organised Crime Agency is the body to which the former computer crime investigative wing, National High Tech Crime Unit (NHTCU) now belongs.
CEOP: Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre tries to capture online child sexual exploiters and spread awareness among children. They even have an offline campaign.
CESG: Communications Electronics Security Group is in charge of IT and communications safety for UK government agencies, including the armed forces.
NISCC: National Infrastructure Security Coordination Centre works on risk reduction for and safe information sharing among government departments.
Others: The home office has a computer crime policy team and the DTI conducts the aforesaid survey; the cabinet has the Central Sponsor for Information Assurance who are running the public awareness campaigns like Get Safe Online, and IT safe.

With so many bodies to report to, how many of the computer crimes actually get reported every year by corporate houses? Unfortunately, we can see only the tip of the iceberg so far. Most companies are scared to report as they fear public backlash, media firing, client dispersal, and some gleeful comments from rival groups. Time to Take a Big Leap Toward Success, or Not?

In the field of personal growth and success there's a lot of talk about how important it is to take big leaps, get out of your comfort zone and stretch in order to create the life and business you most want.

I agree...there is a time and place for a big leap, AND there's a time when slow and steady wins the race.

If you're committed to improving your life and/or business there will come a time and place when the BIG LEAP stares you right in the face, daring you to take it. When that happens you'll be faced with a choice; leap now, or stay put.

That's what happened to me when I decided staying in my cushy corporate job wasn't for me anymore. I could have changed careers and found employment somewhere else but what I really wanted to do was start my own business. When I mustered the courage to admit my heart's desire I found myself at a fork in the road and had a choice to make: stick with the familiar or take the road less traveled.

I chose the road less traveled; in other words, I took the big leap.

Taking the leap I did set my life on a new trajectory. It's what I needed to do at that time in my life to honor the dreams I had for my life. Taking a familiar road would have resulted in "more of the same". BUT, my heart and soul didn't want more of the same, my heart and soul wanted different.

Once I got on a different path the actions I took changed. Instead of taking big leaps, the actions that took me to my next destination of choice were more of the slow and steady variety. With one big leap behind me, my life became more about consistent, focused action, rather than the "take leap after leap and hope my wings don't burnout before I land" variety.

Consistent and focused action, even in small increments, can be very powerful. Consistent and focused action will get you places...great places.

Don't underestimate the power of small steps.

So how do you know whether to take a big leap or stick with slow and steady?

Ask yourself, "What is the next best action I can take right now (to live the life I most want / build a successful business / heal my relationships / get healthy, etc.)?"

Then listen to your gut...it will tell you.

Strategies aside, your gut will keep you on course if you let it. Your gut (intuition, internal pace-setter extraordinaire) will nudge you to take risks, take time off, take a stand, get a divorce, get married, get out, spend money, save money, nap, exercise, balance your checkbook, attend a workshop, invest in your business, reevaluate your life, etc., etc.

Here's the thing: there's a lot of pressure out there to "take the big leap", but never do so because you think you should, do so because you know it's the right time to do so for you. If your gut is telling you to wait, then wait. If your gut is telling you to change your mind, change your mind. If your gut is telling you to go for it, then go for it.

Listen to your very wise inner voice. Trust what it has to say. (By the way, listening doesn't mean you have to DO.) Wait for a clear signal and until then, hold steady. Your big leap is coming and only you'll know when it's time.

Make money Fast With No Investment - How Andrew Made $100,000 in 6 Months

Andrew Newberry is a distant family friend that knew about my business acumen. He knew how I had been in his position only 24 months previously and had heard about the new life I was leading with the wealth I had generated. I could hear the earnest desperation in his voice, when he asked me "how'd you do it Jack"? His question was open and sincere. In my eye's he was at a point where there was only one direction for his life to go...up.

Andrew needed to make money fast. His family were in danger of losing the roof over their heads and although Andrew worked a fulltime job, there were difficulties that created this current crisis.

He couldn't understand how I had done so much considering my humble beginings, while he had worked at his current job for over 10 years and was saddled with the difficulties he was currently experiencing. He told me he had no money to invest or anything like that, but could I advise him on what if anything was possible.

This was my response to him.

You see, what he was asking me specifically was, "how do I make money with little or no investment." My mind ignored his emotional pain and focused on his reality.

Talking about Real Estate investment or anything that needed a capital injection was futile for Andrew, he needed to hear something different. This is what I told him to do, step by step. I told him that if he followed these two steps, he would have $100,000 within 12 months. He did it in 6.

Step one, get a little money.

Not much needed, a few hundred dollars would do, but he has to find something as a seed capital account. I gave him several ideas based on opportunity-investment that seemed too obvious to him and he fought me on it until he made it work. It took some doing to convert him, but he finally gave in to creating value from objects that he currently owns, that he doesn't want or need. Step two, Go Shopping

I explained to Andrew the mechanism behind my success. Compounding, intrinsic value, leverage, rapid capital gains, pyramiding profits. I then asked him to compound the money he made ($1000 dollars) by 30% 19 times. In other words, I told him to find 19 investment-objects that were for sale that he could buy, that had at least 30% or more spare intrinsic value.

Intrinsic value is everywhere. Whether you are buying New York sky scrapers of marble pool tables or Bertram boats, every market has a percentage of sellers offering their goods at well below market value.

Andrew started with old cars because he was a mechanic and now he had a game plan he was going to compound his money with his existing skill set. He traded up and up until he had $12,000 in six weeks. His first purchase was a car in cute condition, but unwanted by the owner because they had just bought a better car. He got it for a small amount and cleaned it well and sold it quickly for a good 300% profit. He went from there.

Get your calculator out and see how he did it, how he evolved his money without a hitch. Start with 1000 then multiply by "1.3" which is the same as 30% Don't press equals, just hit "1.3" and multiply symbol again. Do that 19 times.

When Andrew sold his last auto deal, he was ready to get involved in Real Estate. With $12,000 it wasn't much but it was enough to start applying the same principles with Real Estate. This is where his compounding really escalated.

It escalated, because now he was using leverage....borrowed money. He called me on the day he was ready to start compounding with Real Estate with another problem. As I advised him "get into Real Estate Andrew as quickly as you can, around the $10,000 mark its time to get into that game"

He had a problem. The houses in his area were dear, he couldn't see how having $12,000 was enough to get involved.

I advised him that he should forget about houses until he had at least $40,000 He should focus on raw land. Raw blocks are cheap and easily re-zoned into a higher purpose. With just a small investment at the local town planning department he could re-zone a residential into a commercial or the other way around where appropriate. Its called a "soft" or "paper" rennovation. No painting, no work, just a few simple forms and a fee to pay.

Creating a new use is just one way to add value to raw land, there are many others. Andrew researched and discovered them all. He stuck with land after all was said and done. He discovered buying a large block and subdividing it was very profitable. The second deal he did, he bought a block of over an acre, surrounded by established homes for $300,000 (with a bank loan) It was a corner block and he split it into three handsome sized blocks, tailored to the upper market. The first two blocks paid out his loan and put profits in his pocket, the last block he used as collateral for another bank loan where he built his own beautiful mansion on.

He sold it for a final profit of $354,000

That was about 6 months after our little chat on that cold evening.

The way your skin behaves and reacts determines the type of skin you have. Basic skin types include oily, dry, combination, normal and sensitive. The skin on your face is the best guide to classifying your skin type.

An easy way to find out what type of skin you have is to cleanse your face, wait for an hour and then take a tissue and wipe your forehead, nose, cheeks and chin. If the tissue picks up oily residue from all these areas, you have oily skin; if it picks up oil only from the forehead, nose and chin (T-zone), you have combination skin; if it picks up dry, flaky skin, you have dry skin; and if you do not find oil or flakes, you have normal skin. Tin Pan Alley - Home to New York's musicPublishers

Tin Pan Alley is a term that is synonymous with the American musicpublishing industry. But, is there actually a Tin Pan Alley, how did it get its name and why has it become a byword for the musicindustry?

In the late nineteenth century, 25,000 pianos were sold in the United States each year and, with over half a million youngsters learning to play the instrument, there was a huge demand for sheet music. Indeed the clamour was so huge that publishers rushed to enter the lucrative market. Before long, 1885 publishers were scattered throughout the large cities of the continental USA, but during the last 15 years of the century they all began to graduate towards New York as the citys prominence as the center for the production of the musical arts grew.

It was here that publishers adopted new, aggressive business practices and marketing techniques to achieve phenomenal sales. The publishers tied talented and popular composers to exclusive contracts; they also conducted market research seeking out which style of musicwas currently the most popular. Then they would task their contract composers to produce works in that genre, thus immediately tapping into the lucrative market.

By the turn of the century many notable publishers had their offices on 28th Street between Broadway and 5th Avenue, and this is the area that became known as Tin Pan Alley. How it became to be known by that moniker is subject to a degree of urban legend, but the general consensus is that it is down to a visiting journalist by the name of Monroe Rosenfeld. He described the area as being drowned in a cacophony of noise emanating from the many producers offices, sounding as though hundreds of people were bashing tin pans. He used it several times in his newspaper articles in the early twentieth century and the term stuck.

One of the earliest Tin Pan Alley success stories was the composition After the Ball, written by Charles Harris, which sold close to six millions copies of sheet music. Other well-known Tin Pan Alley compositions from the early 1900s include Give My Regards to Broadway, Shine on Harvey Moon and Let Me Call you Sweetheart, to which most people can hum the melodies and even recite the words!

How Large, How Fast? Choosing The Right Hard Drive Size And RPM

One necessary and extremely important component of computers is the hard drive. The hard drive stores your games, applications, music, pictures, videos, and documents. As such, you should be sure the notebook computer you're thinking of buying has a hard drive that can give you the storage and performance that you need.

There are two important considerations when looking at hard drive specifications for your computer notebook: hard drive size and hard drive RPM.

Hard Drive Size

Hard drive size simply refers to the data storage capacity of a hard disk drive. Desktop computer hard drives offer sizes of up to 500 gigabytes (GB), while notebook computer hard dives offer sizes of up to 160 GB. Notebook computer hard drives are more expensive than desktop computer hard drives with more than twice the capacity of the notebook hard drive. This is due to the engineering difficulties inherent in making high-capacity hard drives for the smaller notebook computers form-factor.

A notebook computer's hard drive size indicates how much data a notebook computer can store. If you are interested in storing large amounts of movies, pictures, or music, you want to go with a larger hard drive to avoid running out of space.

A hard drive's size has very little to do with its performance, unless the drive is almost full. The Windows NTFS File System requires a minimum of 10% of the hard drive to be free space for optimum performance, and it frequently requests as much as 15%. This means that, on a 40 GB drive, Windows prefers that you use a maximum of 34-36 GB, leaving 4-6 GB of space unused. On a 160 GB drive, Windows prefers that you use a maximum of 136-144 GB, leaving a massive 16-24 GB unused. If you start to go over these Windows storage limits, you may notice your computer's performance taking drastic hits.

Hard Drive RPM

Hard drive RPM is a hard drive's rotational speed, measured in revolutions per minute (RPM). Desktop hard drives now have speeds as high as 15,000 RPM. Notebook hard drives, on the other hand, currently have an RPM ceiling of 7200 RPM.

A hard drive's RPM indicates how fast the drive's spindle will move or how fast the hard drive platters will spin. The higher the spin rate is, the shorter the seek time and latency will be. This translates to quicker data access and transfer.

How Large and How Fast

The greater the free space and the higher the RPM, the better your notebook computer's performance will be, so go for a slightly-more-than-comfortable size and the highest RPM for your notebook computer's hard drive. A large hard drive gives you the option to expand in the future, and you can never go wrong with a notebook computer that can give you fast access to your stored data.

Navicular Disease, Contracted Heels And Bad shoeing Practices

If youre studying navicular disease youre undoubtedly finding a fairly wide array of information. Lets just look at it from the prevention/shoeing perspective.

Navicular disease accurately describes a deteriorating condition of the navicular bones that lie in the horses foot. Causes can vary and actually pinpointing the real cause often times is left undetected there are just too many factors that can contribute to the problem. One such factor is shoeing.

The navicular bones are under constant pressure from the deep flexor tendon. The deep flexor tendon is the long steel like cable of tendon that runs down the back of the leg down the back side of the pastern joint right over the navicular bones and attaches itself to the coffin bone. Without that deep flexor tendon there basically is nothing to support the weight of the horse and the fetlock joint would collapse and fall to the ground.

So while the navicular bones are pressed into the foot by the deep flexor tendon it would be prudent to make sure the bones in the navicular area can function at their best which brings us to how shoeing can have an affect.

Its typically understood that contracted heels have a negative effect on navicular disease. The narrow heels squeeze and crowd the navicular bones. The bones need room to breathe so to speak and contracted (narrow) heels dont allow this.

Horses with long toes, where the hoof wall is allowed to keep growing out in front, have a tendency toward contracted heels. The reason for this is as the toe keeps moving and growing forward the load and weight of the horse has a tendency to stretch the hoof wall more forward this condition will drag the heels forward as well. As the heels press forward the heels also contract and narrow. The pinching of the navicular bones start and so do the possible problems.

While the heels move forward they usually get shorter meaning the angle of the hoof reduces and the heels of the foot are closer to the ground as well the horse needs lifts in the heel. This lower heel condition also puts more pressure on the deep flexor tendon against the navicular bones. The problems are compounding arent they? Narrow heels, low slung heels with more pressure against the navicular bones and added to that the stretch against the deep flexor tendon is also pulling at the coffin bone possibly causing coffin bone rotation (the tip of the coffin bone driving downward toward the ground).

To combat these issues is surely necessary and possible. For one start moving the shoe toward the rear of the horse. The shoe can be moved very close to the white line on the bottom of the foot and the excess hoof wall can be removed by rasping. This will help prevent the hoof wall from continuing to stretch forward and pull the heels with it. By moving the shoe rearward the heels of the shoe move to the rear of the foot as well helping support the heel of the foot from sinking into the ground which causes more stretch and pressure.

Now that some changes have been made in the right direction youll also want to help the heels expand (width) to give the navicular bones more room. Removing the bars of the hoof will allow more expansion (width) movement at the heels. Leaving the heel nail out of the lateral side of the foot will also give one side of the foot freedom to expand. In an extreme case its possible to rasp away at the bars widening the heels as well. Temporarily and sometimes permanently it may be necessary to use wedge pads to elevate the heel of the horse as well.

shoeing is very important and there are more things to consider with regard to shoeing that are as important as the above aforementioned discussion. How To Play A Guitar

Friends often ask me how to play guitar or what guitar instruction to use". My answer is usually "it's not so much how to play guitar or what guitar instruction to use but rather, what guitar to play.

They're In For Some Pain

If they've never played before I usually explain to them that they're in for some pain.

In the early stages of practice, when you're learning how to play guitar, pressing your fingers down hard on metal or nylon strings tends to hurt. It does become less painful the more you practice but choosing the right guitar in the first place is just as important.

If you want to become proficient at playing guitar and guitar licks you're going to have to practice hard so the more comfortable you are the better.

Don't Stick Your Neck Out

If you're looking for a new or second hand Acoustic check the distance between strings and the last fret (nearest the body of the guitar). The strings should be as close as possible to the fret without actually touching it or causing the strings to "buzz" when played. The higher the strings from the fret the more pressure is needed by the fingers causing pain and soreness.

Holding the guitar like a rifle, sight along it's neck to ensure that the neck is straight and true. If the tension of the strings is causing the neck to pull inwards this will increase the distance between string and fret. The further along the string you go the greater the distance. Expensive or inexpensive, never by a guitar like this. I've known people who have been put of learning how to play guitar for ever due to this fault.

It's a good idea to own a good quality Acoustic Guitar even if you already own and play an Electric Guitar. The extra effort required on the fingers to play your Acoustic will make it much easier to play your Electric Guitar, a bit like athletes strapping weights to their legs when they train and of course, sometimes, it's much easier to grab your Acoustic for some practice than set up your Electric Guitar.

You may be fortunate enough to have your Electric Guitar and or Guitar Software set up to play at any given instant but for many guitarists it's a case of having to set up amps and leads, speakers and have access to electricity and to a computer in the case of guitar software.

No Need For Power

This is another great reason for owning an Acoustic Guitar. It might be that you have been invited to a picnic or a camping trip or any situation where access to electricity would be difficult if not impossible. All you have to do with your Acoustic it pick it up and take it with you.
